【English Translation】 NARO23 Instructions on Fire Puja by Master Naropa Instructions on Fire Puja Homage to glorious Vajra Dakinis! To act in accordance with the times and combine practices, arising from the navel chakra of combination, this is said to be the pith instruction for benefiting beings through combined practices. Regarding acting in accordance with the times: the full moon of each month, auspicious constellations, and auspicious days should be known. For wrathful activities, the dark moon and inauspicious constellations are preferred. Peaceful activities, etc., should be done in the early morning, and increasing activities in the late morning. Empowering activities are done at noon, and wrathful activities in the evening. There is no fixed time for peaceful activities, and autumn is the most important time for increasing activities. Autumn is commanded by a person of middling status, when crops and fruits ripen, and the autumn harvest is gathered. Build a hearth on yellow earth, and light a fire with yellow woods such as rhododendron and sandalwood. The time, place, offerings, etc., can also be found in other scriptures. Regarding combining practices with the navel: the main deity in the center of the mandala, Heruka, the great glorious king, is in union with Vajravarahi. The seven-syllable mantra should always be recited at the heart of Vajravarahi. Thereafter, accomplish the activities: for peaceful activities, the dakini; for increasing activities, Rupiṇī; for empowering activities, Khaṇḍarohi; and wrathful activities are not praised. The four lineage mothers and heroes, whatever activity is performed, should be in union, and the mantra should also be recited in combination with the navel. Offerings should be made at all four times without interruption, and always offer with hand gestures. Thereafter, perform the fire puja. Arrange external offerings such as incense, nectar tormas, etc. Prepare yang wood, kusha grass, durva grass, and offerings such as ghee. Vajra, bell, nectar vase, and spoon should be placed in front. Instantly transform yourself into the deity, perform the three protections, and consecrate the space. Invite the wisdom being to descend, reciting JAḤ HŪṂ BAṂ HOḤ (藏文：ཛཿཧཱུཾ་བཾ་ཧོཿ，梵文天城體：जः हुं बं होः，梵文羅馬擬音：jaḥ hūṃ baṃ hoḥ，漢語字面意思：融入), and it merges into yourself. Recite the mantra OṂ SVABHĀVA (藏文，梵文天城體，梵文羅馬擬音，漢語字面意思) etc., to purify the hearth. Visualize the palace and seat. From RAṂ (藏文：རཾ་，梵文天城體：रं，梵文羅馬擬音：raṃ，漢語字面意思：fire) arises the fire god, white in color, with one face and four arms. Recite the mantra OṂ AGNĀYE DEVATA SARVA PĀPAṂ ŚĀNTIṂ KURU YE SVĀHĀ (藏文，梵文天城體，梵文羅馬擬音，漢語字面意思), and offer seven portions of yang wood and ghee into the fire each time. Praise Brahma and the fire god, and then visualize the yidam deity at their heart.

【English Translation】 Then, invite all the heroes and yoginis of the ten directions and dissolve them into yourself. Therefore, clearly visualize the Lama in your heart and offer worship. Prostrate and offer all the complete offerings of outer, inner, and secret. At this time, it is said that hand offerings should be made. Use either a skull cup or a mandala, and stimulate the deity with the hand deity, thinking that the hand deity and the deity are inseparable. In the fire pit on the mandala hand, visualize the six heroes and six heroines, and do not desire anything else. Then, gather the hand deity and think that it is inseparable from the fire deity. Stabilize it with the hundred-syllable mantra. After that, offer poplar wood and other offerings. With the root mantra of the Yidam deity, and the near-heart mantras of the four lineage mothers, the wise should know how to combine them here. Recite 'Sarva Papam Shanting Kuru Ye Svaha (藏文：སརྦ་པ་པཾ་ཤན་ཏིང་ཀུ་རུ་ཡེ་སྭཱཧཱ།，梵文天城體：सर्व पापं शान्तिं कुरु ये स्वाहा，梵文羅馬擬音：sarva pāpaṃ śāntiṃ kuru ye svāhā，漢語字面意思：May all sins be pacified, may peace be achieved, svāhā)' to pacify immediate adverse conditions, such as bad dreams, bad omens, bad signs, bad years, bad months, untimely death, and the evil intentions of others, and all unfavorable circumstances. After reciting, confess all violations of the root and branch vows of body, speech, and mind. Pray for the desired purpose. Then, with 'Vajra Mu,' send the wisdom fire deity to the southeast. Visualize the Samayasattva going into the fire, and the six realms of beings entering into it. Recite 'Om Agne Ye' and other mantras, and burn the remaining substances. Also, in the combination of 'Tun,' put food into the stomach, and do it for any of the Three Family Protectors (Riksum Gonpo) as you wish. Mix sesame seeds, honey, red cow's milk, white goat's milk, breast milk from a woman who is nursing a child, peacock semen, and gugul, and cover it with a mirror. Take it in your hand and recite until there is no attachment. Recite: 'Om Nama Sarva Trung Trung Matri Deva La Tri Gyu Gyu Lung Lung Huti Garpa Azakra Svaha. Mara Hari Prama Ta Tem Tem Ta Dha Zus Dha Svaha.' Enter on the first and fifteenth days of the month and at the four times, and arrange three bouquets of flowers. In a precious vessel, arrange the Torma of the Three Family Protectors. Make offerings in the daytime, at night, and at the three times. The mantra to apply to the eyes for seven days is: 'Chakshu Mantra.'
